The International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) are international standardised terminology and definitions, to describe texture modified foods and thickened liquids used for individuals with dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) of all ages, in all care settings, and all cultures. The IDDSI framework consists of a continuum of 8 levels (0- 7). Fluids are measured from Levels 0 – 4, (e.g. 0 flows like water, getting gradually thicker until reaching stage 4, which can be eaten from a spoon). Two independent flow tests for Pro-Cal shot indicated that all flavours of Pro-Cal shot were within IDDSI level 3 when chilled (6 ± 1°C). However, there can be considerable variation in consistency of liquids depending on various factors, such as storage conditions and temperature. Therefore, we recommend that the IDDSI level of Pro-Cal shot is checked by a Speech and Language Therapist to ensure it is appropriate for individual patients.
